Our Labor of Love

Writer's Note:  I would just like to apologize in advance for the number of photos in this post.  This was truly a labor of love and I felt the need to really show the process!

A few months ago Mike and I noticed an old desk sitting in front of our neighbor's yard for bulk trash pick up and needless to say, we saw some major potential.  This old desk sat in our back yard for a couple of months before we got around to fixing it up.  The legs were broken and the knobs were old and didn't really attach any more.  So we tossed the knobs and Mike fixed the legs!  This is the first time in my life that the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," has really applied to my life.  So why the random desk?!  I feel this need to sew a lot of my own details for our wedding, from napkins to tablecloths to some details I'd like to keep secret!  So I decided that this will A) be a fantastic desk to use for a sewing table and B) be of great use as our pie table at our wedding.

On one fantastic Flagstaff summer day, I got to work on painting this sucker!  Here are some of the before photos and some photos of my wonderful paint job! :)

Our blank canvas!

My tools.

Getting to work.

My little helper kept sticking her nose in the paint.  Just love her!

My half of the job was done!

Then it was time to dry before phase two: sanding.

Mike finished it up with the sanding process!

Mike moved my new work space inside for me and I loved his touch of flowers!  So thoughtful!

I'm so in love with these knobs from Anthropologie

Our finished product!

My first sewing machine, that I plan on mastering in the near future.

I'm so excited to purchase fun pie displays to put on this table for our wedding day!  This is the part of our wedding planning that I'm enjoying the most, taking creative ideas and making them our own!

I know most of you saw that our previous reception location fell through, and after initial disappointment, I'm happy to say (that like most things in life) things are working out for the better.  I don't want to jinx us, so you'll have to wait to hear about the official site!  But I will say that it's much more fitting for the type of day and type of vibe we want for our special day.

We'll be taking our engagement photos in one months time up in Utah so I'll have to post some fun wardrobe teasers for you guys beforehand! :)  So much love to you all!

  2. "Sewing" will come naturally to you as it runs in the gene pool. Great face lift. Love following it all on your blog.
